May to Dec 2015 – Where have I been?

Has it really been 8 months since my last post?  Wow… it has!  After I wrote my last post things got “busy”… but since I really dislike that term, I’ll just tell you the truth.  The truth is I prioritized writing blogs way down on my list as I went through the final push of our migration to our newest platform at BrightGauge, and it never got re-prioritized up.  Shame on me!

For a recap, the migration that concluded in May was a nearly 2 year project for the BrightGauge team (you can read about the epic celebration we had once it was complete, or just go straight to the recap video we posted on the youtube).  It was an amazing accomplishment and after we recovered from the celebration, Eric and I went to work integrating 5 new employees to our small team and improving every process we have in the company.  As a result, we managed and rode the wave of growing the business faster than we ever have and ending the year stronger than ever (all thanks to the teamwork of the group below).  As of today, we are a team of 12 crazy characters, bringing on 3 new team members next quarter, and we have a very healthy SaaS business.  [Picture Caption: What should we do with our hands?]

To add to that, the second half of the year personally was equally rewarding and full of changes.   My daughter turned one in late November and I was able to witness so closely all that comes in that first year (crawling, walking, switching foods, etc).  It’s absolutely amazing.  My wife, who is a dermatologist, ended up the year switching dermatology practices after we did some real soul searching on what’s best for our family.  And at my nudging as well, she launched her own personal blog that already puts our readership numbers to shame :).

What a second half it was!  Truly a great one for us as a team and family.

Starting this week and throughout next year, though, I’ll get back into writing blogs regularly (schedule TBD).  Not just to compete with my wife (of course not) but because of the advice I gave her.   To me, and many others, writing facilitates really creative and clear thinking which selfishly helps me out quite a bit.  I’ve done a bunch of writing internally this second half of year but want to create more publicly available content in 2016.  If anything I learn or concept I explore is of value to you, then it’s a huge win/win to keep writing.

My brother and I already have some great content lined up to share regarding the SaaS & MSP industry, product management, software development, and SMarketing.  We’ll also share out our unique viewpoints on maximizing productivity and general work/life philosophies that seem to be working well for us.  And even later this week I’ll post my favorite content pieces in 2015 so definitely come back around for that post.

All in all, it’s been a heck of a year and I’m even more excited for 2016.  I hope you had a great second half of the year as well.  I look forward to sharing more in 2016.

Cheers!
