Reflections on 2015

2015…What a Year!

The end of the year is one of my favorite times of the year because things tend to slow down, the holidays brings friends & family together, it’s a great time to reflect on the previous year and plan for the upcoming new year.  The past few weeks I’ve found myself reflecting on 2015 and for me it was a phenomenal year for a number of reasons.

First the important stuff…

I celebrated 5 fantastic years of marriage with my wonderful wife and took a memorable vacation back to where we spent our honeymoon.  My youngest turned one this year and seeing her take her first steps and develop her fiery personality has been amazing.  My oldest celebrated her 3rd birthday and hit a major milestone of starting preschool in the fall.  Although starting school has brought some colds home the benefits in her development far outweigh the occasional sniffles and head cold.

For me personally…

I’ve grown more this year than in prior years.  I expanded my learning by reading more than I ever have before and found myself enjoying books outside the topic of business.  I found a new medium in podcasts that allows me to learn while on the go, usually in the car, which has turned my commute from a dreaded 30 to 40 minutes to an oasis of learning.  Thanks to the inspiration of my wife and my brother, my health has become a renewed priority which I am really enjoying.  My work challenged me like never before (in a good way) and pushed me out of my comfort zone and forced me to adapt and grow.

My work has been inspiring…

It’s amazing to see how BrightGauge has transformed from a side project in 2011 to a full fledge growing software company.  To see this in action still astonishes me and it’s really only when I take a step back to reflect that you can see how far we have come.  We started the year with a team of 7 and ended with a team of 12 (and 3 more to join early 2016).  We started in a cramped office and moved into an awesome new space which will be our home for the next 3 years.

I have really enjoyed seeing our product evolve, our team come together to not only complete a major product migration in the middle of the year but drive tremendous growth in the second half of the year.  However, the most rewarding part has been to see the adoption of our customers and the excitement they show for our product.

As I look back at 2015 I feel very blessed and I can’t wait to see what 2016 has in store…

Happy New Year!
